Good to know
Frequently asked
Everything about ordering, customizing, and collecting your box. If your question isn't here, we'd genuinely rather you asked.
Ordering
How far ahead do I need to order?
Order before 4:00 pm and the earliest pickup is 2 days out; order after 4:00 pm and it's 3 days. You don't have to do the math — the checkout calendar only offers dates we can genuinely bake for, so any date you can select is a date you can have.
Do I need an account?
No. Checkout is guest-only — we key your order to your email address and send the receipt and pickup details there. Nothing to sign up for, nothing to remember.
How do I pay?
By card at checkout, on the site. Utah sales tax is calculated automatically at the current prepared-food rate, and your card details go straight to our payment processor — they never touch our own servers.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Yes, just get in touch at tanya@liddlecakes.com or (801) 824-5885 and we'll sort it out for you. Changes and cancellations run through the bakery rather than the website, so we can look at where your box is in the schedule. The earlier you reach us, the more we can do — once a box is baked and decorated, we can't unbake it.
Customizing
How does the builder work?
Pick a cupcake style, then step through the choices it offers — swirl, cake base, frosting flavor, frosting colors, and finally box size and any finishing touches. The running total updates as you go, so the price you see is the price you pay.
Can I have more than one frosting color in a box?
Yes. The frosting color step is multi-select: your first color is included in the box price and each additional color adds a small fee, shown in the builder as you pick.
How do gender reveal cupcakes work?
You choose the hidden center color — pink, blue, or a custom shade — right in the builder, as a required step on reveal styles. It's a real option recorded on your order rather than a note we could miss, and it comes through in bold on the ticket we bake from. If you want to keep it a surprise from yourself, have someone else place the order.
Can one box have different styles?
Each box is a single style, customized however you like. If you want more than one look for an event, add a box of each to your bag — they'll be part of the same order and the same pickup.
Pickup
Where do I pick up my order?
At the bakery: Sugar House, Salt Lake City, UT. We're open Mon–Sun · 9am–4pm. Everything is pickup only — we don't ship, and we don't drop off.
When is my order ready?
At the 30-minute window you chose at checkout, any day we're open between 9:00 am–4:00 pm. Your box is baked and decorated that morning, so it's at its best the day you collect it. We'll email you a reminder on the morning of pickup.
Can someone else collect the box for me?
Of course. Whoever comes just needs the order number or the name the order was placed under — very handy for surprises and for anyone stuck at work.
What if I'm running late?
Don't panic. Give us a ring or email tanya@liddlecakes.com and we'll hold your box for the rest of that day. If you can't make it at all, contact us and we'll work something out.
Allergens & care
Can you make something allergen-free?
Everything is made in one small kitchen that works with wheat, eggs, dairy, and nuts every day, so we can't promise any box is free of a given allergen. Email us at tanya@liddlecakes.com before you order and we'll tell you honestly what we can and can't do for you.
How should I store them?
Keep the box closed at cool room temperature, out of direct sun, and eat them the day you pick them up — that's when they're best. The fridge dries the cake out and dulls the buttercream, so only refrigerate if your kitchen is genuinely hot, and bring them back to room temperature for an hour before serving.
How long do they keep?
They're at their peak the day of pickup and still good the next day in a closed box. After that the cake starts to firm up. You can freeze undecorated-side-up in an airtight container for up to a month, then thaw sealed at room temperature.
How do I transport a box?
Flat, on the floor of the car rather than on a seat, and out of the sun. Buttercream softens quickly in a warm car in summer — the air conditioning on your drive home is doing more work than you'd think.
